Summer Beauty Tips!

Whew!!... It’s gonna be a HOT summer my friends.

Base Camp

First, let's start at the base… your skin! Your skincare is going to change depending upon the season, at the very least you’ll want to reassess your skincare products twice per year - from winter to summer and summer to winter.

If your skin falls into that not too dry, not too oily realm you might want to switch to something lighter for your moisturizer throughout the warmer/more humid months and keep the oil applications to the evening time only. Of course… This only applies if your skin isn’t excessively dry/oily and of course this advice will be dependent upon where you live and the specific climate.

A final note - don’t forget your sunscreen prep. Of course you should be wearing sunscreen everyday/all day but if you’re doing a specialized prep for your wedding or a special event.. Don’t forget this important step!

Now that we’ve adjusted our skincare routine according to the new weather patterns - let’s move into beauty.

Humidity and makeup don’t really go hand in hand. So if you’re needing to wear makeup and be outside or in warmer temps let’s get some prep going and make the right decisions regarding products. My top tip, after you’ve finished your skincare routine and just before you apply makeup, give yourself a generous spray of a mattifying setting spray. This will give you an extra barrier between your skin and makeup, thus allowing your makeup to set well but also not be broken down by the natural oil in your skin as quickly. Next move in with a oil controlling primer, just in your t-zone or oily areas. This way you’ll be matte where you need it but keep that beautiful dewy glow in all the right places.

Next you can skip foundation if you want to and use a concealer for spot treatment or if you really want a foundation, look for something that is matte… a sheer matte coverage is really going to be ideal here. Luckily for us there is a new generation of foundations that are sheer but also skew to more of a matte finish, rather than shiny. These are perfect for the warmer months!

Color Fun

Next for color - when it’s hot I like to focus on one area only and leave everything else light and easy. So maybe thats a pop of bright color on the lips.. A shiny juicy gloss or matte poppy red lip color. Either way I’ll go this direction and keep the eyes super light, just some mascara and a groomed brow.

Or if i’m feeling more of an eye look I’ll do a wash of bronzer or a sheer glitter cream, keeping everything focused on the lid and blending only a very little bit into the crease. Then the complexion can have a hit of bronzer and lips a soft wash of clear gloss.

Final tip - don’t skip the waterproof mascara. No matter the occasion a waterproof mascara works wonders in the heat.

We’re going for minimal product and texture for the summer heat!

Bridal Beauties

Now for my bridal beauties…. You’ll want to use all these same techniques if you’re planning a hot, summer wedding.

These hot weather beauty looks are perfect for most bridal styles; from everything to boho brides, to classic and glam brides. This look would even work for the rock n roll and minimalist brides. It’s all about picking what aspects of beauty you want to highlight and adjusting according to the hot temps.

If you’re really committed to a full coverage glam makeup vibe for your bridal beauty look then do what you can to minimize your outdoor time throughout the ceremony, have blotting sheets on hand and a small handheld fan will work wonders to keep the shine and sweat down.

Don't forget to tag @thebridesguidetobeauty in all of your summer beauty selfies!

Now go forth *with your sunscreen, of course* and soak up that summer heat my friends!
